Where I am at right now as an artist I would say is not very far. I haven't really improved because I have not been drawing. I hope to learn a little more about pencil work as in shading. I will take a couple risks like maybe messing up and trying new materials. Some goals I have for myself are to get better with pencil work, shading and maybe trying new techniques.

My favorite artwork this semester would probably have to be my non representational artwork. The reason I like this artwork so much is because of all the bright colors and how realistic the waves look. I really like the projection it gives and the feeling. I really liked exploring around with the task board and paint combinations. Although this art looks more of wave than not, I really do love how it turned out and I am very proud of how the result looks. This artwork would have to be the artwork I would choose to redo. I liked how it turned out overall but I would never keep this in my house or room. I feel like I could have made better use out of the materials and where I put them on the cardboard town. I really don't like how the buildings turned out because I did not wait for them to dry and the paint got smeared. I also do not like the color of the yellow house and I could have added much more decorations to make it look more complete. Something that I have learned in art class is to stay on task and try your hardest. It honestly doesn't matter what the final thing turns out to look like but you should always try your best when completing an artwork. I learned to make my artworks better and worked on targets to help me reflect on my artworks better. We learned about targets and how each target could help us make our artworks that much better, Something I wish we have done was make little clay magnets or little food. I really like making things out of clay and I really like magnets. I would have enjoyed doing more clay and especially these donuts (even tho this is plaster) I would have enjoyed making it from clay instead. This was my favorite little thing to make. Artist's Statement: For the past week, I have been working on my final artwork. I wanted to create something that had meaning to me. I think that quote is really meaningful because of what it say. To me, to stay hopeful means to not give up even when time can be really hard. I feel as if I have a lot of worry in my life so by staying hopeful it really does help a lot. Having hope is a great way to overcome fear or worry. I worry about the future, future things and what could happen to me. By not worrying and having hope for the future, maybe things can be a lot better then what I imagine sometimes. To create the structure of my quote I used a thick paper and cut out two rectangles. After I cut out the two rectangles, I used paper cups and glued them to give the rectangle and stuck them together. After the two pieces were stuck together I used paper tape to cover up the cups and paper. I did about two to three layers of paper tape so there would not be creases from the previous paper tape lay down. Finally after the whole base was dry I used a white base because I knew I wanted to use bright colors. After the white base was dry I used a blending technique to get the pink, purple and blue to combine. The last touch was adding the words in white and outlining them in black.
Standard Evidence: For the targets of this artwork we had to base this artwork on us mainly. The artist I chose that I feel connects with me most is Frank Big Bear. The reason I think Frank Big Bear connects with me most is because he uses his personal life throughout his artworks. I think that based off of this piece it connects to my personal life also. By having meaning which I explained more above, I think that shows that Frank Big BEar connects to my artwork and what I have created. I believe that everyone should have hope even when times are rough because you never know what could happen if just stay hopeful. If you continue to stay negative.. you should not expect many good things in life. I think art reflects life because it shows a persons feeling or beliefs. Life can reflect art by having beautiful moments in life. People may believe that good times can be considered art. The past two weeks I have been working on a clay figure. I chose to do someone setting a volleyball because I am a setter. I really enjoy the sport volleyball so I feel like this turned out to be a really good figure. I made each part of the body separately and then used scratch and score to connect all the pieces. I used slip to stick the pieces together and yes it was a struggle because of all the weight standing up. As you seen in my most previous blog, this is a different figure only because it was too heavy. I ended up having to redo the first one and having to make this one way more light so it wouldn't fall over again. I ended up making the head way more light and the feet and legs more big. By making the feet bigger and the legs, it gives it a good structure to hold up the upper half of the body. For the first target I created a volleyball clay sculpture. This is meaningful to me because volleyball is the only sport I am in and I am a setter. I consider people who like or play volleyball would be the best audience for my artwork. I think that people will like this if they are in volleyball because they would find more interest than if someone who is not in volleyball. I will present my artwork because it could have more meaning then. A way that I presented that enhances the communication is by explaining how this artwork connects to me and how it may connect to other people. By doing all these things I believe I made a meaningful artist statement.
The past couple of weeks we have been working with clay. For the clay unit I made a soap holder which is the monster, and I also made a mug. For the soap holder I used the pinch pot method and for the cup I used the slab method. I glazed them with a red and green color. I am actually pretty happy about how the mug turned out but if I could change one thing it would be the color because it became a little darker than I wish it would have. For our figure artwork and am working on a girl setting a volleyball because that is my favorite sport. The reason I decided to do this was because I am a setting in volleyball and it would best represent me. It is not going the best because it is pretty hard to stand up on its own but I rebuilt the parts to make it stand way better. It is starting to look way better and I am happy. I hope this turns out how I have planned!!
The past couple of weeks we have been working on non-representational artwork. I decided to make a sunset but with a twist by adding the curls on my artwork. To create my artwork I used cardboard, toilet paper, mod podge and taskboard. For the waves and clouds I used a piece of cardboard, cut out the shape, and glued it to the base. Then I took toilet paper and glue to build it up even more and to also add texture. I wanted to add texture so it was like a relief so you could feel it and feel all the different textures I created. I really do love the way that the textures turned out on they feel super cool. I wanted to add something to make it not represent something so I curled wet task board and let it dried. Then I glued it to the end of the water and the clouds so I could add something cool while it didn't really represent anything. Before I made my artwork I told Fran about my ideas and what I wanted to do. She said she really did like my idea and once I thought about it I decided to keep what I was gonna do. After reflecting on my artwork and from the feedback I was given, I then decided to add some more toilet paper and mod podge to my art. Then after all my feedback I made some fixes to my artwork. Such as adding more of the task board curls to the clouds and having to repaint them. I also add to add some more paint over the previous paint that I painted which was pretty difficult but I was able to accomplish what I wanted to with the colors. To make my artwork a bit more of a challenge, I had to figure out how to curl the task board to make it stay in its curl. I found this quite difficult but after a few curls I got the hang of it. To overcome some of the challenges in my art I asked for help and also I just went with it. There were a few tough things in my artwork but I was able continue working on my art. The whole thing overall turned out super good and I am very proud of it!
This past week we have been working on non representational artwork. My artwork is inspired by a sunset paint and I wanted to add stuff to it to make it look more 3D. I know it looks like what i explained but I am working on making it look more not like what I want it to represent. I used toilet paper, mod podge, and cardboard to add height on my artwork. I also used to paint to paint everything and used taskboard to make the curling waves. I put down the mod podge and then a layer of toilet paper and then kept on repeating the process till I got the desired height I wanted on the waves and clouds. I really like how the water is turning out because of the colors and the task board waves. I also talked to Fran to see what she thought about my artwork and made switches and adjustments to what I was planning on before. I also am thinking about adding more task board, toilet paper and mod podge. I have an idea to addmore curls coming out of the clouds and maybe some more out of the water. I really am looking forward to the final artwork I have been working on recently.
Target Evidence - For the first target I completed target A, which is seeking out artists and artworks. To complete this target I looked through the slides of artists and seen what they did for artworks. I learned about each artists and the different techniques they used. For my second target I completed target B, which was document inspiration and ideas. To complete this I drew out my plans in my sketchbook and I learned how to plan out my artwork. For the third target I completed target D, which was exploring new media and techniques. To complete this I used materials like pom-poms and beads and I learned how to make realistic things out of these materials. For the final target I did a combination of C and F, which were making observations and practicing new skills. To complete these targets I finished my artworks by adding paint, people, and other objects and I learned how to add to an artwork to make it look complete. Artist Statement - These past couple weeks we have been working on architecture. While looking through the slides of different artists I really got inspired to make a little town out of mixed media. I used cardboard, paper tape, beads, pom-poms, paint, and popsicle sticks. I really liked working with the cardboard because I find it pretty easy to work with and the paper tape it makes it even easier. During this artwork some parts were more easier than others such as making the objects like people. The struggles were making the small buildings but they ended up turning out really well. I am actually pretty happy with my artwork and I plan to use a good amount of the media I used in the artwork in future artworks. I really enjoy the little people which are made out of beads. Something I could work on is adding more to my artwork and to make it have more of a finished look.
This past week we have been working with fabrics. I created a sock monster, a cookie, and bunny. To make both socks I used buttons and pom-poms to add to the plush. For the cookie I just cut out chunks of brown to make it look like chocolate chips. This past week I learned how to sew on buttons because I didn't even tho it is not hard at all. I am very proud of the blue bunny. I would say the material I wouldn't want to work again but I actually really enjoyed the materials we used last week and will use them again even outside of art. The two goals I have been working on are trying new things and to plan everything out in my sketchbook first so I have an idea what to make. The past two weeks we've been working with a bunch of different materials. Some of the materials we used were plaster, styrofoam cups, wire, floral foam, and plaster gauze. I used these materials because I have not used the majority so I thought it would be good to try some different materials. I really ended up liking the plaster (the donut) because it was fun trying out something I have not before. This material was kind of hard to work with but once you get the right tools it wasn't bad at all. The one material I probably wouldn't want to use again is the styrofoam cup only because it was kinda messy and just was not my favorite thing ever. I am pretty happy with all my results of from using new materials.
